1894
The Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Barton County is formed.
1900 -1970
The company endures two world wars, the Great Depression, social unrest and change, along with countless technological innovations and changes, while still providing its policyholders the protection they need.


1971
Renamed Barton County Mutual Insurance Company; expanded charter to offer statewide coverage.
1981 -1985
Cape Mutual and Owensville Mutual join Barton County Mutual to serve the citizens of Missouri.


1994
Barton County Mutual celebrates its 100th anniversary
2001
Renamed to Barton Mutual Insurance Company; Owensville Mutual rebranded as Gateway Mutual Insurance.


2011
F5 tornado strikes Joplin causing unprecedented damage; Barton Mutual makes good on its promises to affected policyholders, paying out over $60M in claims.
2012
Barton, Cape, and Gateway are combined into the single entity of Barton Mutual Insurance Company.


2018
Barton Mutual rated by Demotech, continuing the company’s commitment to financial stability.
Present
Barton Mutual continues to serve the residents of Missouri from our home office on Main Street in Liberal MO, with over 25,000 policyholders statewide.
