Most owner occupied policies contain coverage for refrigerated food spoilage. This is valuable following a prolonged power outage when you are unable to safely salvage your food. The limit for this coverage is typically $500. Barton Mutual policies do not apply a deductible for this coverage.

The USDA has tips for keeping food safe during an emergency situation, and they provide guidelines for when certain food may be considered “spoiled.” Read more about that on their website.
